Persian Queen - Tee

Gold Filigree, Deep Blue, One Gaze

A medium-weight cotton tee carrying a portrait of a sovereign woman — crowned, armoured at the shoulder, set against a field of dense floral geometry.

The composition is built the way an illuminated page is built: a figure held at the centre, ornament worked into every remaining inch, and no empty space left unaccounted for.

Persia has a longer record of women holding power than it is usually credited with. Two Sasanian queens, Boran and Azarmidokht, ruled in their own right in the seventh century and struck coinage in their own names. Further back, Achaemenid administrative tablets from Persepolis record women managing estates, drawing rations for their own workforces and travelling on official business. The crown here is not a costume.

The Design Vision

• Crown and gem: A single violet stone set at the centre of the goldwork, which gives the eye its first fixed point before it starts reading the ornament.

• Lion and phoenix: The two motifs worked into her shoulder plates — one for force, one for return. Armour that argues rather than just protects.

• Gold against deep blue: Burnished warm metal on a cold dark ground, the pairing that gives Persian manuscript painting its depth.

• Ornament to the edges: Floral geometry fills the field behind her, so the portrait sits inside the pattern rather than on top of it.

She is not waiting to be introduced.
