Wings of Gold Over Lapis Armour

A lightweight ring-spun cotton tee carrying a crowned Persian ruler rendered in gold on deep lapis blue, wings opening wide behind the shoulders.

Gold vine-work runs through the composition and across the figure's armour, dense enough to read as worked metal rather than pattern.

Islimi is the scrolling vine-work that covers Persian tilework, book bindings and inlay: a single stem that splits, curls and rejoins without ever ending. Craftsmen used it to fill a surface without repeating a figure, which is why it reads as growth rather than decoration.

The Design Vision

• Crown and wings: The crown's peaks are cut hard and geometric while the wings behind them open wide and soft. That contrast is the whole composition.
• Islimi in gold: Scrolling vine-work fills the space around the figure and threads through the plate, so ornament and armour read as one continuous surface.
• Gold on lapis: The palette pairs gold with deep lapis blue — the same combination used on Persian tile and inlay, where lapis lazuli was the costliest pigment a workshop could buy.
• The gaze: The figure looks straight out, expression held flat. It gives all the ornament around it one still point to settle against.
