The Last Ones Left Are Iranian

A medium-weight cotton tee built on a deliberate contradiction: the fastest land animal on earth, sitting perfectly still inside a Persian arch.

The front is the cheetah at rest on a tiled platform. The back opens the same tilework out into a full mandala, so the two placements are one continuous piece of architecture rather than two separate graphics.

The Asiatic cheetah once ranged from the Arabian peninsula to India. It now survives in exactly one country — Iran — in the central desert plateau, with recent surveys counting the entire remaining wild population in the dozens. Persian and Mughal courts kept them for centuries as hunting animals, walked on leads and hooded like falcons. The animal on this shirt is not a symbol chosen for its speed. It is one of the rarest large cats alive.

The Design Vision

• Stillness in a fast animal: The cheetah is seated and composed inside the archway, the whole posture working against everything the species is known for.

• The arch as frame: Persian architectural forms hold the figure and give the composition its vertical structure, so the eye is directed rather than left to wander.

• Tile into mandala: The mosaic beneath the cat on the front expands across the back into a large-scale radial pattern. The back is the floor, opened out.

• Mosaic-grade detail: The tilework is drawn at a density that rewards close looking, which is why it sits on a smooth spun-fibre blank rather than a textured one.
