The Banner of Kaveh, Carried Forward

Derafsh Kaviani puts two of the oldest symbols in Persian memory on one garment: the royal standard of the Sasanian Empire across the chest, and the Shahbaz along the spine.

The story behind the banner is a rebellion. Kaveh was a blacksmith who rose against the tyrant Zahhak, raised his leather apron on a spear as a rallying flag, and that apron became the imperial standard of Persia for centuries. It has meant liberation from the beginning.

The Design Vision

• The Front — Derafsh Kaviani: Positioned over the heart, the Apron of Kaveh reads as the emblem of liberation it has always been. The geometric precision of the central star, framed in deep crimson and violet, carries a disciplined royal heritage.

• The Back — The Shahbaz: The royal fabled bird of the Achaemenids dominates the rear panel. Associated with divine guidance and often set alongside the Farvahar, it stands as watchful protector of the Iranian plateau. Its jewelled feather patterns echo the height of ancient goldsmithing.

• The Arc of Ascension: Moving from the revolutionary banner on the front to the soaring Shahbaz on the back creates a deliberate narrative: the grounded struggle for freedom, then the flight toward imperial glory.
